No more daddy coaching! The new coaching methods

In constant evolution, coaching now offers new coaching and support methods to better meet the needs of companies and managers. An update with Valérie Rocoplan, founder and director of Talentis. How long has coaching existed in business?

Valerie Rocoplan: Business coaching has been around for about a century. Psychology and psychoanalysis, on the other hand, have been in fashion since the 70s in the United States and in France since the 80s and 90s. Coaching “à la française” has very pronounced psychoanalytic and psychological aspects. This is not the case in Anglo-Saxon countries where it is only considered as training and preparation for managers, in the same way as training for example.

French coaches enjoy a reputation for seriousness and competence...French-style coaching is quite safe because coaches are trained very seriously, they are required to be certified by renowned schools.

Talentis, moreover, attaches paramount importance to the training of the coaches who work within it. For 25 years, the practice has been the same: it is “one to one”, during sessions of one to two hours, and outside the company, for example in the coach's offices and not in the place where the coachee works. Positive point: the person leaves their daily work environment.

Can other forms of support be considered?

They already exist! They are at the same time lively, accessible, adapted to the lives of the people accompanied. Thus, telephone coaching has existed for a long time and has developed very strongly.

Skype, too, allows for shorter, more frequent sessions. There are also a lot of sessions on site, going to see the coachee evolve in his work environment, being in “shadowing” for half a day, attending a meeting and facilitating with the team in order to really coach it.

And then, of course, with the significant emergence of coaching platforms, we can offer short sessions, à la carte, to work on this or that specific subject, for example to prepare a meeting. Is the Click & Coach platform a response to these new requests for support? Yes, because Click & Coach makes it possible to find a coach who perfectly matches the expectations of the employee and the employee can organize his coaching agenda in a few clicks. Various tools, starting with Skype, allow for great responsiveness. The collaborator can thus attend sessions from where he wants, when he wants.

What are the expected changes in coaching?Today, coaching is quite expensive, and takes quite a long time to implement. However, there are occasional needs that do not require full-time coaching. Very interesting results can also be obtained in one to two hours. That's what we offer with our Click & Coach platform.

It allows all corporate talents to be supported in a simple and flexible way by a coach.

The HR Director acts as a sponsor and supervisor: he assigns an hourly quota to the employees he wishes to have supported, and ensures their attendance and their progress.

Each month, Talentis provides a detailed report that makes it possible to effectively monitor the needs and goals of the coachees, as well as their participation.

How will the coach's work actually change?Digital coaching is an important change. It is also accompanied by complementary practices such as yoga, mindfulness, voice coaching, in order to make the body work, and not only the intellect.
