How do you succeed without exhausting yourself?

How do you succeed without exhausting yourself? This is a very important question that everyone should ask themselves throughout their career. Every month, every week, every day, check that you are in the right place in terms of power consumption and also in terms of targeting your goals. In this video, Valérie Rocoplan, CEO of Talentis, gives us 7 essential keys to go further, longer.

#1 Succeed, késako?

So, the first pitfall that makes it possible to succeed by exhausting yourself is that you don't really know what you want to succeed in. The first question I would like to ask you is: What is the meaning of success for you? What do you want to achieve this year, this month, this week? Are you sure you are clear about your ambition or your aspiration? How is your energy spent? Is it spent on trifles, pebbles, or twigs that don't serve your ambition and aspiration? Or is your energy focused in the right place in relation to what makes you proud, what makes you happy? Do you want to succeed?

#2 Distinguish the essential from the important

Second question: how do I distinguish on a daily basis, in my day, in my week, in my month, in my month, My essential of my important? Let me explain, each of us has tons of things to do all day, our agenda is overbooked and unfortunately, things are not going well. If we are not able to say to each other, What is the essence of what I need to succeed in today? What is the main part of what I have to succeed in this week, and that we do not put the big pebbles first in our pot, it is a well-known symbol, we will be unable to enter the small tasks and the trivial matters later. So our number two key will be to say what do I absolutely want to do today, this week, this month because it's essential? If I don't do it, no one will do it for me, it's part of my job. And how do I put it first on my agenda, not at night, not at the weekend? The time of the essential is in primus, you the Preserve. It's key number two.

The parable of the big pebbles

#3 Be in control of your agenda

Key number three, check who really “drives” your agenda. Do you book Time yourself ? I call them RVMMs. Is your agenda reactive or proactive? A responsive agenda is an agenda in which everyone plugs in appointments, and therefore your own appointments for the most part that we were talking about earlier do not exist. Two hours, three hours, four hours a week, how much time is set aside to prepare for meetings, to prepare for your end-of-year interviews, to go out in the field to check out the competition's new products, to go and read this essential article? What are these times that are preserved because they serve your intelligence and efficiency? People who are exhausted don't have that time. So they do it in the evening, on weekends, elsewhere, never and they feel like they did nothing during the day. It is exhausting to lose the sense of what you are doing because you have the impression that you are doing lots of small things and never important things. So remember, key number three: am I doing my RVMMs, Rendezvous with myself ? I write them down in my agenda and keep them. Nobody has the right to push them around. So of course the system is not perfect, sometimes there are people who will bother us. I put an RVMM back in my agenda.

#4 Make time for everything

Key number four, listen to yourself and tell yourself also in my time, I have Four-stroke. I have time to The action where I have to do what I have to do; the time of the reflector where I need to think, to reflect, to anticipate, to take stock of: am I not forgetting anything; the time ofinspiration, this time is very important and will give me new ideas where I will go and see things that will inspire me outside, on the internet, in a museum and whatever, the time that feeds me with new things; and the time to respiration. Do I take care of these four phases: action, reflection, inspiration, breathing? How are they organized in my agenda? So, it seems simple enough, but generally our entire agenda is full of action and a bit of thought. And if we do not preserve these times of inspiration, pleasure, renewal, professional or personal, for that matter, I will come to it later, we will exhaust.

#5 Know your periods of peak and low energy

Key number five, do you know the times of the day when you are in good shape? Do you take these periods to do the most complicated, difficult, or boring things? It is usually the periods when you are in the best shape that you want to let yourself go lazily, to things a little more trivial. Well no, if you are in good shape in the morning, put difficult tasks on your agenda, force yourself to do things that are more complicated that require more thought. This is the moment when your brain is most irrigated, when you will have the better results. During the day did you observe the moments of Peak or decrease in energy ? In moments of low energy, put tasks that are a little bit of lower added value, reading emails, tidying up, filing, possibly discussing with colleagues you have not seen for a long time and it is also important to network. Put moments in these moments that are certainly important, but that are not necessarily essential.

#6 Manage your agenda like a marathon runner

Key number six, keep in mind that you are marathon runners and not sprinters. So, manage your calendar, your agenda, your energy like a marathon runner with patience. Not everything can be swallowed all at once. Not everything can be done all at once. Plan agendas, but also manage your energy over time, and not on chases.

#7 Remember to listen to each other

Key number seven, we know that people who succeed over time and who do not burn out are people who listen to each other a lot and not only in terms of managing tasks and projects, but also in managing their own body, of their person. And so, they take care of several things that seem obvious and yet essential. Quite a few people make mistakes and burn out by not respecting this and putting work first. Food, am I eating healthy things? Do I drink a lot of water during the day? Do I exercise regularly during the week? You are overwhelmed, but you have need to move, you have need to get some fresh air even walking at lunchtime. Are you taking time off so your brain can disconnect? It is now proven that the brain needs recovery time to be more efficient then. Times when you don't do anything, no times when you rewrite your emails, or you go on social networks, times to breathe and rest for your brain. Do you do digital detox treatments from time to time, during the week or during the month? Take care of yourself, and ask yourself regularly, “How are you feeling? ”, “What do you need and what do you do to take care of his needs?” ”. It is quite surprising when you support people who are on the verge of exhaustion, to see how difficult some people are in expressing, what they need and this ability to respect their needs in order to last over time. In conclusion, no one is waiting for you for the number of hours you spend in the office. People are waiting for you to be strategic. People are waiting for you to be Effective. People are waiting for you to be influential. So, don't multiply the number of tasks in your agenda, focus your energy on the essentials and above all ask yourself: what do they expect from you in function? And Am I putting my energy in the right place?
